TOpening the location for The Gathering can be anywhere in the state.VASA was offered free space at The Church of the Holy Comforter, Richmond. When The Gathering was being planned Culpeper Tells had stated they were dissolving, so there was to be no festival this year. You will also be able to listen to stories and practice good story coaching.įor the last 5 years The Gathering has been held in Culpeper alongside Culpeper Tells Storytelling Festival. In a small group, tellers will be able to tell a story and get specific feedback to make your story better. Using the listening and feedback skills presented in the morning, along with the skills of experienced coaches, the afternoon session will provide attendees a chance to go ‘deeper’ in telling and listening. The second part of the Workshop day is story coaching. The workshop will focus on receiving and incorporating storytelling feedback on listening with an ear to help a teller improve and on principles of story coaching. The first part of the Workshop day is designed to move to a higher level’ in storytelling. Newbies will benefit from attending, but help with those topics can be arranged at a later time. We are not offering ‘how to tell a story’ workshops or ‘where to find material’ workshops. This year’s Gathering Workshop day is designed to offer opportunities to get better at the storytelling craft. Most VASA members are not beginner storytellers.
